Shall we shimmy?

by June

This morning, we woke to an April shower. It was a S.N.O.W. shower. We did the only sensible thing; we stayed in bed with our books and trusted that even snow showers will bring May flowers. Early signs already abound...Full-bloom spring is shimmying this way.

new grass

bare-tree shadows

eager peas

kale that made it through the winter

a star magnolia

a bee finding the first blossoms

our favorite spring snow: the weeping cherry

Just in case you're in need of a good book to keep you cozy and happy during April showers, we recommend the ones that kept us happy this morning. I'm reading Major Pettigrew's Last Stand. Oh, how delicious it is! Fern is gobbling up The Seven Wonders of Sassafras Springs. Blossom is savoring every moment of Cheaper By the Dozen (even though her sister blurted out some of the highlights when she read it first).

Birch? you ask. What was he reading? He got up and made the coffee and ginger scones. Somebody had to!

Sleeting here this afternoon too. If it makes you feel any better, I didn't get dressed until 2pm today... Curled up with the fire and enjoyed the day. Lovely photos June!.. especially the weeping cherry. Lots-o-luck with your peas. Mine are off to a slow start..80 degree weather off and on over the past few weeks seems to slow them.

I know you must be about to explode with anticipation.

Even Kale is beautiful, as pretty as the weeping cherry. There is not a trace pf sadness in cherry's bloom for it to weep... ecstasy of colour!! ~bangchik

Gonna go look up "Major Pettigrew" - rumblings seem to abound over that book...

How your photos make me long for more Spring, although, slowly but surely, we're getting there...

...and Birch is sure welcome to travel over our way anytime... :)

You guys are way ahead of us June.
We can't really plant anything untill late May, still snow on the mountains all around.
I miss seeing the beautiful Magnolia trees on the east coast...love the little bumble bee.

Jules is almost finished reading
Catcher in the rye and Auggie just finished The trumpet of the Swan, they are/did really enjoy them.
I had to laugh about your comment about the sewing machine. I have trouble with my German machinery too...not enough Fahrfernugen...hehe.

Hi June,
What beautiful spring images! Hooray that your kale made it through the winter! I bet you guys are excited to cook on that beautiful oven this summer. We are hoping to make a little clay oven soon! I hope you and yours are doing well!
Sending some love your way,
Sara

June it's nice to know that even though I write this a coast away, others are sharing a spring chill (and still optimistic). My bulldogs have laid claim to heat registers and I've donned my ratty gardening sweater. Here's to warmer days!
