In the swim of summer...

by June

...at last.

We once brought out-of-state friends to our favorite spot on the lake. The mommy waded in and said, "I feel like I'm swimming in a big drink of water."

It is a big, clear, precious drink, Portland, Maine's big drink of water. It's worth protecting. C'mon, dear neighbors, stop worrying about dandelions in the lawn. Eat 'em up in soups and salad -- and help keep chemicals out of the big drink (a.k.a. the best swimming hole ever).

Bee u ti ful! Swimming is our most favorite summertime thing to do. The beach towels are out on the laundry line drying as I write. We spent the day up at the lake yesterday and tonight is rafting with friends on the river. Big drink of water.. that is great. .. and the dandelions are good for the bees too!

Oh June. Your photos are breathtaking, especially the one of your daughter under that crystal-clear water.

I think that's the best description of lake water that I've heard - "a big drink of water".

Happy Weekend!

Wow... that water is so crystal clear! What great photos!

I love Portland's downtown area... all kinds of fun shops! I bought my most favorite cookbook years ago in Portland's old downtown area.

I feel refreshed just looking at these beautiful pictures. Hey, I think I even see a little fish in one of them (it's in the photo just before the one of the pretty mermaid :-)

I spent all my teenage years on Sebago Lake with my best friends family. I have such fond memories of it. The water is just getting warm enough here to warrant a trip to the beach (finally!). Love the pics! You make me want to go swimming right now!

One of my most favorite family vacations was when my Dad borrowed the mini-winnie and we loaded up and drove to Maine with friends. I still dream of the drinks-of-lake we had along the way. Mostly I remember the wonderful tide pools on the cost of Maine. Gosh, I'd love to see it all again. The closest lake we have and love here is an hour away. Adore that underwater shot. Priceless. Take a BIG drink for me...please...!!

How gorgeous! This is in Portland? My husband and I honeymooned in Maine almost 22 years ago. Our first stop was Portland and one of the highlights was a hotair balloon ride. The scenery was incredible... like your lovely photos here!

Amen sister! We vacationed on the coast of Maine every summer growing up (Prospect Harbor near Acadia) and I remember how we had to go in mid-late August before we could even think about putting our toes in the water.

We had a cove in front of the cabin and we could go sit on this giant rock and let the tide come in all around us and wade back in.

Beautiful memories...thanks for reminding me!

Doesn't it feel good to get away from the concrete and chlorine? Even saltwater doesn't compare. This place looks so beautiful and pristine.

How lovely to have such a clean, clear and WARM lake to swim in. Our lochs are the first two, but wetsuits are preferable as far as the temperature is concerned!

that sounds like heaven. I miss my ol' swimming hole in Austin TX, our very special, magical big drink with crawfish and salamanders and algae that creeps its way into your swimmer.
