Where have we been? Not far really. Home is a good place to be. But since we've been away from here, how about some postcards of our summer?
We've been watching the garden grow in the new beds...
and playing with the silly goats...
 |
| Blossom and Fern "pretend" ride the goats. |
...and the beloved cat and chickens, too.
We've been raising ducklings...
...into ducks named Peach and Ping.
 |
| That's Ping with Fern's big toe in her beak. |
We sit on the back porch—when we can grab the closing moments of a hectic day—and we watch our peaceable kingdom and think of friends near and far. We've been thinking of you. I can't tell you how intertwined our life on this land is with the friends we've made through the blog. We've heard from some of you lately, asking where we've been and when we'll be back. And we, too, have been wishing we could pick up the conversation where we left off. And now we have. What's new, dears?

Oh you've just made my day! I was so pleased when I saw this post at the very top of my sidebar :-) I have missed you but I see you have been very very busy - as it should be- enjoying summer and all you survey in your kingdom ..and what a magnificent kingdom is is!
Can those girls grow ANY faster?? I think not!! Sending homecoming hugs to you and yours!
Oh, Colleen! We've missed YOU. Hope all is well in your kingdom. Hugs all the way to Utah!
If you could only see the smile on my face. So happy to see you back! Love those ducklings! Too cute. Tell the girls I think the names are perfect.
Big love and hugs from your RI friend.
Big love and hugs boomeranging right back to you, Lisa! Believe me, our smiles mirror yours...to be back in touch at last!
We got chickens this spring and are eagerly watching them grow. Your ducklings are so cute!
Emily! It's exciting as fall approaches with your chickens...the first eggs! We love our ducks. They are so loving to one another and the girls.
It's good to hear from you, June! Glad you are having a great summer! Ducks are so much fun!
June, when I saw your post in my reader, I jumped right over!! The girls are growing fast and so is your little homestead ~ ducks! I love them! (I still remember reading "The Story About Ping" as a child and I always tell my last chicken they're late! Perhaps I should get some ducks... well, at least I'm finally getting some goats soon! Stay in touch with us via your blog. Even a quick picture with a sentence or two!
I love it anytime we hear from you and your family! I was wondering if the story of Ping would come into play when I saw you now have ducks. I hope fourgreenacres is updated quarterly (at least) just to let us know you're okay.
Have a lovely rest of the Maine summer. Cheers~
Do you remember Keplers Funny Farm? One emu, 2 piggs, a peacock/peehen, and a turkey.. and you will be there. LOL. love you sis. Missed you. Enjoy the remnants of your summer. Love and huggs to you and the China dolls.
Oh, good to see you back. I've missed seeing your beautiful goats! We've been planning and designing our goat barn over the last few weeks, in the hopes of adding Nigerian Dwarfs to the farm next spring (turns out we'll need a building permit - bah - oh well, it's worth it). I love your ducklings, how fun! Ducks are such great fun, and seem a little less hard on the plants too. Your chickens look like they're living in paradise.
How cute are those ducklings?! Well, everyone really. The girls are getting big. It's good to see your post, and hear that all is well.
Thank you, one and all! We are incredibly lucky to have each of you in our lives. It's so great to hear what's going on in your gardens and lives.
Love that last picture! What a beautiful, peaceful and interesting place you have!
